System Design

The Department of System Design deals with the design of complex embedded hardware and software systems. Particular emphasis is put on the following areas of research:

  • optimization of platforms for industrial applications
  • state-of-the-art approaches to system design with components of the information and Communication Technologies
  • development of highly-efficient design processes

Primary application domains include engineering, communication and data processing technologies as well as the area of automotive technology.

System design is done using seamless development processes on the basis of application- and architecture-specific design flows and leads to solutions leveraging embedded processors, FPGAs, PCB designs, ASICs, or system-on-chip (SoC) implementations. In these processes, development tools and paradigms such as MATLAB/Simulink, various UML tools, ASCET-SD, or SystemC are used. An architecture-specific software design for various embedded processors supplements the hardware solutions developed.

The focus of research at the Department of System Design follows current trends in the relevant industries and markets, which distinguish themselves without exception through a highly dynamic development.
